Kunqu Outlier: Yang Han-ju

Yang Han-ru is one of the top female actors in Taiwan's Kunqu opera scene. Following family tradition, Yang Han-ru initially studied mathematics. However, at the age of 20, she was captivated by the beautiful melodies of Kunqu opera and embarked on a completely different path from her family and friends. Switching to an artistic career, she became an outlier in her math-oriented family. In this documentary, Yang's story is a microcosm of the challenges faced by those who choose to pursue artistic achievement in Taiwan, where self-identity and social acceptance are put to the test.

Ku Ming-shen: Dance to be Free

Taiwanese dancer, Gu Ming-shen, was the first person to introduce contact improvisation to Asia. Contact improvisation is a dance concept that embodies political, open group participation, and integration of non-Western cultural elements. This film documents the preparation process of her cross-border collaborative stage work “Doppler effect” and shows the outdoor structural dance work “View Hunting”. The Binjiang Fruit and Vegetable Market in Taipei City was established in 1985 and has been continuously supplying nearly one-third of fresh fruits and vegetables to the greater Taipei area. It is Taiwan's only three-dimensional structure wholesale market, serving both wholesale and retail functions. This documentary records the events that occurred in this market within 48 hours, providing a glimpse into the vegetable and fruit auction that only exists late at night and experiences a special sense of isolation from the general society.
