Mulan, a rebellious, courageous young female role of The Ballad of Mulan in China, shoulders up the family expectation and defenses her hometown from invasion.


Because of the historical setting, Mulan capitalizes on the theme of life, war, and family, and asks the crucial questions: How to navigate your life through lurking darkness? How to find your inner peace in the time of uncertainty?


Mulan is the crossover project proudly presented with percussion and Peking Opera. It brings classic acrobatics, stick throwing act, and Peiking Opera vocal style together with Marimba and drums, which sparks creativity and wonder to us all.


We’re honored to present Mulan, a soul-filling masterpiece that speaks to the Asia’s sentiment and other universal themes. TaiwanPlus is more than happy to invite you to witness the fresh finding on different artistic forms with the visual spectacular and the strong beat of the drum.

Hello, everyone, welcome to the show on TaiwanPlus. I introduce you Mulan by Percussion Theater, Ju Percussion Group.

 

Mulan is a well-known character in Asia, and I believe most people are familiar with her shine. The artwork includes some universal themes, such as war and family, and it will arouse your sentiments. We hatch a crossover project with percussion and Peking Opera since music brings people together regardless of the language barrier and cultural differences. 

 

Percussion Theater’s Mulan opens a dialogue between percussion and Peking Opera. The new kind of performance emerges with music, symbolic gestures, vocal style, and physicality, and sparks creativity. We present 18 Movement Sticks and 13 Sounds in Peking Opera as percussive sounds. And Marimba and Peking Opera vocal style work together to sob the unspeakable words in Mulan’s heart. 

 

Through mise-en-scene, the art-fusion collaboration is so successful that it's hard to distinguish between a percussion instrument and a prop, a Peking Opera performer and a percussionist. A delicate balance of every element makes the works of art as a whole. 

 

Percussion Theater’s Mulan took ten years to finish since we’re ambitious to proliferate an iconic crossover. We’re more than happy to share the soul-moving performance with everyone around the world.

擊樂劇場《木蘭》，是打擊樂與京劇的深度對話，我們將音樂、身段、唱腔、肢體融合在一起，創造出全新的展演型態。你會看到，傳統京劇的十八棍、十三響，被轉化成打擊樂，而馬林巴木琴與京劇的口白唱腔，共同呼應著木蘭的內心世界。
