Television advertising directed toward young children (aged two to five) should not be allowed because of its bad influence on kids’ body images. To attract its audience, the advertisement has been recruiting some tall, slim, fair skin models to promote their products, which are actually implanting the toxic ideal body image into children’s subconscious level.

Unrealistic body images fully destroy self-esteem and health. At the young ages of 2 to 5, children collect, absorb and believe in any information they see and hear, including the soul-crushing beauty standard that not everybody can meet. These impractical body images ruin children’s childhood due to trying to achieve the perfect body rather than enjoying their youth. In order to obtain the “ideal” body, children will starve themselves in order to become extremely skinny. This results in the long lasting harm to their bodies and even forms eating disorders. Moreover, these commercials would set a higher risk for poor health. Severe dieting and overdose of steroids are both what unreal expectations in body images will lead to. Everyone will seek flawlessness in their bodies and it is unstoppable for these inaccurate thoughts to spread.

In conclusion, the unrealistic beauty standard in the advertisement does not provide any benefit other than harm. It causes the next generations to pay more attention to unrealistic body images and not only seek perfection in themselves but also others. Commercials directed toward young children should not be tolerated and therefore, should be banned immediately.
