[cover letter/自傳/推薦信] 英文 cover letter

Dear Fellows,

I am Shelly, a graduate at NTNU’s English Department and have taught English/American Literature, English writing, and Media Literacy for a year. I envisioned myself at the research/planning/content creating aspect. It would be my honor if we can make great ideas happen together. So here are three reasons why I think I am competitive to join the team.

  1. Can-do attitude:
I am a strong-minded and growth-oriented person. With the mentality, I actualize Samuel Beckett’s words, “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.”

● Long term game player. Every day, I ceaselessly embellish my research results by reading and revising my papers even on Friday nights for two years. I got a full scholarship offered by Academia Sinica during the third year to study at UC Berkeley, when it was awarded to only 10 undergraduate Taiwanese students per year.
● Crisis management and self-regulation. During the gap year resulting from a family emergency, I privately tutored to keep myself financially feasible and asked to sit in to learn German and French for my third and fourth language. A winding road doesn’t stop my loud footsteps.

  1. Search and research, insight and highlight:
Research is fundamental and to create an impactful, authentic communication.

    • ●  Sharp focus for the team. During the dramaturg internship in SF, I positioned myself to break down information and write digestible essays for the actor/actress, director, and technical crew to support creative development. Research is not a self-claim but a structure for creativity to flow in.

    • ●  Solution orientation. A production team always fights together. As a Research Assistant for Stan Lai and Sandra Woodall, I have helped out not only on research but also some other aspects such as the strike, outreach to artists and potential audience, and artistic administration. I stay solution oriented. I am the expert in my area, but also ready myself to be a bench player in other fields to stay solution oriented.

  2. Coaching leadership:
I am proud to say that I am a leader to successfully empower, collaborate, and communicate with internal and external audiences with such leadership style:

    • ●  Make motivation matter. I was a Teaching Assistant in a Freshman literature class. Most students cannot relate with literature. However, it’s only been two weeks, but I have received seven thank-you-letters from students and I have motivated them to deliver some oral constructive responses in class. The professor was amazed at the change and complimented: “God sent a student for me and the students.”

    • ●  A talent magnet, a value provider. Last semester during my undergraduate study, our counselor for the English Department invited me to give a speech as a research minded person to freshmen and sophomores. I happily agreed and immediately proposed to have a thinking tank to involve for approaches and mindsets. I invited six other alumni to share our experiences in the panel on May 12. Their specialties range from Communication, Feminism/Queer, Psychology, Classics and Social Linguistics. I am happy to be a superstar, but it gives me more sense of achievement to light up a sky full of a million stars.

With these three reasons, I definitely conclude myself as both doer and dreamer, qualities that differentiates people from the other college graduates.

  • ●  I study literature, but I also USE the abilities of close reading and analysis in multiple aspects to have work done since I developed the skill sets from studying literature.

  • ●  I do research, but I also APPLY my research into solution orientation and make my insights impactful in the real world.
I am more than happy to contribute and please don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s anything I can help. Thank you so much and I look forward to the cooperation.

Sincerely,

Shelly Shih
